Energy Village Art Incubator Proposal -
The Energy Village Project has the potential to be a focal point for art creation, teaching and instruction for new generations of artisans in Eugene and Oregon.
I wish to see, and propose, that a portion of Energy Village be utilized for instruction in metalworking, craftworks and other varieties of artistic endeavor such as fire performance, circus craft and lighting.
It isn't necessary to overdefine the artistic mission of this incubator. Teachers will be selected on their abilities and passion. The resulting mix of educational resources will define what classes are taught.
Given that an art incubator needs material resources to thrive, at some point, the incubator will have to choose certain avenues to focus on.
Metalworking, fine jewelry making, craft work...these are all possible endeavors to support.
Classes would be sponsored and appropriate charges instituted. The incubator would have periodic showings of promising works for the community, and possibly a gallery for the sale of the best works.
A volunteer system would be created in order to keep expenses down and help potential students acquire credits toward education.
Given that culture is transmitted through artistic endeavor, the incubator would be devoted to creating new avenues of cultural expression through the arts.
