Greetings to all who are concerned,

My name is katina Andoniadis, I work  in events planning and currently have the pleasure of working with Susanna Meyer and Energy Village on a three day event to take place in Switzerland in the fall of 2009.

Susanna has shared with me energy village's vision for an exciting project for the Eugene downtown mall, she calls it the cool mall - it's more a conceptual working title than final moniker.

What the cool mall does is establish an urban identity for downtown.  At this point, any of the proposed concepts for redevelopment that have come our way have offered little more than uniform buildings, condos, stores and offices.
The cool mall offers an identity that captures the attention of young professionals looking for a place where they can live, work and play.

The cool mall creates a space that embodies the philosophy of creativity and independence that Eugene is known for and plays it forward to the new generation in a way that is edgy and truly progressive.  The youth that are coming out the universities today are seeking an urban scene. They are highly skilled, work hard and enjoy spending their money on the finer things. The University of Oregon has been searching for years to find a way to stop the brain drain of young professionals that come out of their schools.  We all watch as they graduate and move away to cities that offer them a nightlife as well as the opportunities to earn at the high levels they are shooting for.

While I believe the cool mall speaks to all generations and see it as a way to create a space that speaks to a broad spectrum of Eugeneans, my personal interest  is in how it helps us to ride the next wave, not only will retirees be attracted to a thriving downtown but it's also the twenty and thirty-somethings  that will buy the condos, have their babies, and participate in the programs offered in the cool mall. Their children will fill our now empty public schools while their parents earn their incomes, pay their taxes and spend their money close to home.

Please give the cool mall your consideration, there is much potential in this vision just waiting to be realized.

Sincerely,

Katina Andoniadis
