Energy Village
As a local musician, I would like a place in this community where musicians and artists could come together on a regular and ongoing basis and share as well as pass on their art to the community and to generations of people. A place where local musicians and artists would not only be supported, but where they would enrich our lives and also give back to the community by way of workshops and classes.
As a biologist, I would like to see a place in the heart of Eugene, in which educators, environmentalists, conservationists, biologists, city planners, etc. could come together to address challenges and where the greater public could access information and receive education in how we can live mindfully and responsibly with and in our environment.
The idea of a place to come together, where community members can share their skills and talents, seek out services, art and wares, a place where children can be embraced, nurtured and inspired, this is an idea that is worth pursuing and exploring. A vibrant, safe and collaborative community in which healthy relationships could be built and community members’ needs could be met. A diversity of cultures, skills, and perspectives present and yet a unifying vision of a place in which people can come together in a safe and fulfilling way. I would like to be part of such a community.
Having lived in or close to Eugene for over 7 ½ years now, I have worn many different hats, including social services worker, conservation biologist, educator, musician, friend, organizer, etc. I am excited about the very real possibility of an energy village coming into being for Eugene’s community members. In small pockets of this larger community, there already exists the kind of sharing and collaboration of energy, actions and ideas, that when brought to a common area, can grow into something much greater and increase the quality of life for residents in Eugene and surrounding areas.
I sincerely hope that the vision of an energy village will indeed find the support it needs to become a reality here in Eugene.
With hope,
Kimberly A. Cullen
