My name is Erik Rhay, I am a martial artist, skateboarder and painter. I recycle for a living. In my ideal community center there would be a section where people of all kinds could gather, train and grow. In capoeira, we are like a family. In this space youth from all backgrounds can gain a sense of identity, community and get in great shape through the art of Capoeira. The genre-crossing apeal of capoeira makes it accessible to all different walks of life, something we definetly have here in Eugene. A space that everyone feels at home in, the walls painting by local artists.. Affordable, accessible martial arts training that appeals to many kinds of people, of all ages; develops a positive identity and provides a fun and complete physical activity. Capoeira has been known to change lives, mine included.
