Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I hope you are well. I am sending this to all people on my contacts list. As many of you know, I have been working at LEAD for the last three years, first as an intern from the Family and Human Services Program, a short time as Homeless Outreach Coordinator, for two years as a Group Coordinator while we were creating Nuestro and for the last year I have been the Director of Nuestro Lugar.
I have recently resigned from my position as Director of Nuestro Lugar/Our Place Teen Center. I wanted to email you this information because email contacts will change as to who at LEAD is handling what aspects of the positions I was doing. Also I want people to hear directly from me why I am leaving. Working at LEAD has been one of the best experiences of my life. The youth and staff at LEAD embraced me with open arms from the beginning and we quickly went to work building Nuestro Lugar. It was an exciting adventure. The youth and their families at LEAD trusted me and opened up to me and it has been an honor and a privilege to work with them. Since the opening of the Teen Center, I have moved more and more into an administrative role and over time I have realized that it just isn't for me. My passion and drive is working directly with youth and their families. I believe Nuestro Lugar is in good hands and will grow and continue to be a safe space for low-income, multicultural, and at-risk youth in our community. I want to thank you all for the support you have given me, Nuestro Lugar, and LEAD over the last three years and I hope you will continue to support LEAD as it evolves.
I am going to be working as a one-on-one instructional assistant in 4J School District at Roosevelt Middle School until June and then travel to Mexico to study Spanish in an immersion program for two months. If all goes well, I will start at Portland State University in the MSW program in the fall. And I will be back at LEAD at that time in some capacity: staff, Board member, or volunteer.
